Data Centre, Confidential Client

The Problem

the Client is a leading international multidisciplinary service contractor, providing mechanical, electrical, data and fire protection services along with data technology solutions and major turnkey projects. They have built up a significant breadth of global cross-sector project experience across all of these disciplines.

The Problem

The Client was manging an expansion project to an existing Data Centre. As part of a complete turnkey package the client was managing both the electrical and the mechanical aspects of the project. In order to serve the new extension, a solution had to be found to tie the new building into the existing buildings chilled water system infrastructure without any disruption of service.
The existing chilled water system had to be tied into at 4 separate locations to serve the new extension. The tie in to the existing chilled water system had to be undertaken without any interruption to the existing data centre which runs 24/7.

The Solution

APS were contracted to provide a solution and to manage the tie in of the new connections. Following a full site survey and inspection APS manufactured the bespoke hot tap fittings to suit the 18”host pipeline with the required size outlet (16” PN16). Attending site APS supplied and welded the four bespoke fittings to the existing host pipeline, supplied and fitted new isolation valves to each of the under pressure tees. Following the valve installation each connection underwent a pressure test for 30 minutes to prove the integrity of the new connections before the drilling process could progress. Each test was witnessed and recorded by the client. Once the pressure test were approved the connections could be drilled to make them live. APS was able to deliver the project on time and to budget to meet the client and site owners requirements.
