PIPEFREEZING

This highly effective method of temporary pipe isolation has become the de facto standard for the online replacement of valves and for general pipework modifications or maintenance work. Using this process, pipe contents are safely frozen for the duration of the modifications or maintenance work, avoiding the need for draining and refilling the entire system:

Benefits

  • Safe and proven method
  • Makes effective on-line maintenance possible
  • Time and cost saving procedure

UNDER PRESSURE DRILLING

(' HOT TAPPING ')

Where freezing is impractical, a 'hot tapping' technique can be employed, allowing the engineer to install a branch connection to a live or charged pipeline or tank - again without the need to interrupt the flow of the liquid or gas. In this procedure, a new branch connection and valve is fitted to the pipe or vessel, pressure tested and then drilled under pressure with purpose designed drilling equipment.

Hot tapping can be performed on almost any type of pipe, with pressure ratings up to 100 bar and temperatures as high as 350°C:

Benefits

  • Fast, leak-free process
  • Can be used on pipes carrying hot liquids
  • No interruption of flow
On completion of a satisfactory pressure test the branch is drilled.

SHRINK FITTING

The Allied Pipefreezing Services portfolio also includes shrink fitting - a safe, economical and efficient method of assembling components without the need to use heat or employ force fitting techniques. Using this method, the inner component is shrunk by immersion in a bath of liquid nitrogen, so enabling mechanical assembly, without the risk of damaging components:

Benefits

  • Quick and effective procedure
  • No risk of damage by distortion or metallurgical change
  • Components retain original integrity

LINESTOPPING

With the portfolio expanding to include a LineStopping service, Allied Pipefreezing Services are able to offer a much broader range of services and solutions to our clients.

LineStopping is a mechanical method of forming a temporary isolation in a live main, where some flow exists and thus cannot be frozen, or a total shutdown is not an option.

LineStopping has the added advantage that a bypass can be installed so as to maintain flow, thus negating the need for a shut down or major disruption to services. LineStopping can be used on most common pipeline materials such as Steel, Cast Iron, Ductile Iron, Copper, Stainless steels, Plastics and Cement Asbestos.

Benefits

  • No drain down time and associated waste problems
  • No need for customer warnings
  • No need for lengthy shutdown planning
On completion of a satisfactory pressure test the branch is drilled.
The LineStop head is inserted into the pipe to isolate a valve in need of changing.
